Agenda

Running Meetings (Wood Badge)

maddog couldn't say enough about the Scout's "Wood Badge" program to train leaders. (Google it for some interesting tales.) maddog has some insights to share.

Incorporation

  • Need to register with the state with bylaws and articles
  • Bylaws See ProposedByLaws2005
  • State Registration See ProposedArticlesOfAgreement
  • Then get IRS EIN and apply after 3 years for 501(c)(?) see LegalEntity
  • In reviewing IRS documentation, 501x6 pretty clearly applies to dues paying orgs. Perhaps not all members pay dues, but dues-paying members can vote on how their dues are spent? Let's discuss.
  • General membership involvement
  • Ratification
  • When and how to hold membership meetings for elections
  • When and how, if ever, GNHLUG should seek funds and from what sources

Meeting Coordination and Logistics

Let's share experiences, agendas, meeting ideas, how to run a meeting, how to shut up that guy in the back who just won't quit, and so forth. Heather has given us a good start with the idea of setting up a structure, schedule and plan for announcements, where do we take that? How to announce, where to announce?

  • Each chapter should have a primary and an alternate coordinator (at least)
  • Contact info for both should be on-file with the taskmaster
  • Coordinators should be approved to post to gnhlug-announce
  • Working towards a system of regular planning and announcements (Taskmaster)
  • BillMcGonigle's LUG-minder
  • See Wiki's MeetingGuide
  • Box or bag of: "Hello, I'm" badges, agenda, signup sheets, raffle tickets, etc.
  • Literature Banner, Business cards Brochures / handouts

Upcoming Meetings

  • Next Quarterly Meeting(s):
    • Speakers
    • Topics
    • Location
    • Dates

Internet presence enhancements

  • DONE: Upgrade TWiki (Thanks to BruceDawson)
  • In Progress: Switchover to new server, thanks to BenScott
  • Make the Wiki more friendly and informative - attendance, links to announcements and notes
  • New server - discussion.
  • Special chapter webs? Email forwarding?
  • Demonstration of new TWiki features and capabilities
  • Discussion of new server services

Outreach Programs / Member activities / Community projects

  • NELS, Sofware Freedom Day, Hosstraders, Linuxworld booths, presentations
  • Should GNHLUG create and be responsible for outreach programs
  • What resources should GNHLUG provide for member developed outreach programs
  • How should GNHLUG approve or regulate outreach programs which use the name GNHLUG
