How does Karl work?
How do you work?
Edit files, run commands on work machines.
Read & Reply to email (either X or tty).
Browse company's Intranet.
Run some lightweight X apps (e.g. Calendar).
Occasionally run some big X apps (e.g. Frame).
Instead of making your computer a node on the work
network, make it transport your eyes + finger tips there.
Notes:
I'm an xterm + vi + Unix cmd-line kind of guy, so
this works great for me. E.g many tens of xterms
working on a variety of things/projects.
One's company likely has an Intranet where with data
one wants to get at. One can access this via a port
redir to a company web proxy. Or you could access
your own proxy (apache) running on your workstation.
Or for a small company with just 1 webserver, redir
directly to the server instead of a proxy.
A useful trick is to run a second Netscape set to use
the proxy. Write a script to set $HOME to a new place
with a work-related $HOME/.netscape prefs directory.
You can have work related bookmarks, application
setttings, etc
