Neat things: VNC
-
VNC: Virtual Network Computing
Transports a desktop (Unix/X, Windows, Mac)
to anywhere!
Virtual: vncserver/Xvnc (5901 = :1),
Actual: x0rfbserver (5900 = :0), WinVNC, ...
Notes:
This is a handy way to transport a whole desktop
at work to your local machine at home. Try it out.
Usually for Unix one setups a "virtual" X desktop
where apps are run (this is the core Xvnc program).
As an alternative, the program x0rfbserver is a CPU hog,
but allows you to connect to a real X display (i.e. Your
actual workstation desktop), CPU hogging is only done
when desktop is being viewed. e.g inetd can be used
to run x0rfbserver only when needed.
You can view a Windoze desktop easily this way,
too. The core WinVNC program does this. Mac too.
