Hosstraders is a big hamfest (amature radio festival) and technology flea-market. It is help twice a year at the Hopkinton Fair grounds. See http://www.hosstraders.com and http://www.qsl.net/k1rqg for more info.

Linux and ham radio go together very well. See the HamRadio page in the Www web for why.

GNHLUG tries to have a booth at Hosstraders and do the Linux evangelism thing. We spead the word about Linux in general and GNHLUG in particular. We also have CDs with recent Linux software which we sell for a buck per disc.

BenScott and MadDog are the current major coordinators for this, but quite a few others help out, and the help is needed. Just manning the booth and answering questions helps a lot. In the past, EdLawson has sometimes managed to bring a Linux-based ham demo, which really rocked.

Materials needed:

  • Booth
  • Table rental for the booth
  • Warm bodies to man the booth
  • Computers with CD recorders
  • Blank discs
  • Disc sleves
  • ISO images of recent Linux software
  • Markers for blank discs
  • Signs/banners
  • Copies (hard and soft) of http://radio.linux.org.au and similar sites
  • Slips of paper with our name and web address ("business cards")
  • Power cords and UPS
  • Ethernet cords and hub

Present and past volunteers:

Ideas for Future Improvements:

  • More Ham radio demos and knowledge
  • A custom CD with radio-related software on it
  • A custom bootable CD with radio software on it
