It is now possible to create a professional level Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) using only [[Free Software]]. For a number of years audio applications for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora Core have been packaged by Fernando Lopez-Lezcano in the [[http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/][Planet CCRMA]] repository; recently a Fedora Extras SIG has been created for audio. Christoph plans to cover: * a high-level overview of the projects & goals * an evaluation of the competitive (proprietary & OSS) landscape * trends and industry standards * high level overview of MIDI * high level overview of firewire & audio * summary of installation & configuration * demonstration of Rosegraden (midi-sequencing) * demonstration of Ardour is likely, not guaranteed
